family mealtimes

I remember when I was little, family mealtimes were very important. The ritual of setting the table, sitting together chatting, enjoying good food and helping to tidy up afterwards was always something to look forward to at the end of the day (except when I was on washing dishes duty). It’s a good habit to form as a family. Our littles are 6 and 2 now, so family mealtimes around the table are not very relaxing, but at least we are trying!

I love this post, on how to get your kids to talk about their day at the dinner table. Definitely going to use some of those tips although we struggle with trying to get a word in when Bailey is at the table. And I spend most of supper time trying to get food into Robbie’s mouth and not on the floor…

We’ve also started giving Bailey a few chores around the house so she can earn some pocket money. The three things she needs to do every day are 1) make her bed in the morning, 2) set the dinner table and 3) tidy up her toys before bedtime. She’s taken to these tasks very well, and when you have such cute placemats, it makes the chore of setting the table a little easier. We got our placemats from Tickled Blue – they can be customised with names, characters and colours. The littles love that their names are on them. Robbie keeps saying ‘Me piwit!’
