frame hunter

In the last two years, my kids have snapped the arms off two pairs of my glasses. My most recent pair of Burberry frames were the latest casualty and for the last month I have been wearing them with the broken arm stuck on with washi tape.

What with moving house and trying to get settled, I have just been going with the Washi tape look for now (I can swap it to match my outfit) but the novelty is wearing off.

Inspired by Kamini Pather, who recently Instagrammed herself in her gorgeous new Oliver Peoples, I have been searching for the right pair. OM actual goodness, it’s hard. The general rule is to go according to the shape of your face – round, square, oval or heart etc. But I don’t know what shape my face is. Should you go alone and make a decision based on your gut, or do you take friends or your partner and listen to their opinion? My instinct tells me you go alone and you take your time, research the styles that suit your face shape and get something that will still look on trend in 5 years. Here’s hoping I make the right choice. Heaven knows I’ve had enough practice, toddlers and reading glasses should never be left alone in the same room…

plant love

Compliments of the season to you and yours. I hope it was a wonderful, relaxing and restful time with family and those you love most in the world. Mine was, and I am so grateful.

Back to work now however and our gorgeous holiday in Rooiels and Knysna is starting to recede in my memory as we focus on getting back in to work and my littles starting play school (eek!) and the big excitement of moving house on 1 February. A total dream come true! We’ve started collecting boxes and clearing out already – if anyone has tips on moving with littles, we’d be very grateful to hear your advice as the thought is as overwhelming as it is exciting. After this I am sure we will have some and I’ll be sure to store them up for a future post once the chaos has died down.

I have started my Pinterest board for the decor, of course, and one thing I am decided on is to have a house full of plants. This brilliant guide below has helped and inspired me, as I am helplessly watching my beloved split leaf philodendron wilt and die before my eyes (I’ve had it for years, but it suddenly doesn’t look well.. I moved it to a bigger pot and it’s not adjusting to the space. Anyone know how I can perk it up?)

Plants are the easiest and most affordable way of making a house feel like a home. Take a look at the below for some inspo (I have a major crush on the black and white rug too).

Please bear with over the next few weeks as I share our packing and moving journey with you. As a full-time working mother of two little ones I am sure it’s going to reveal some interesting sides to my character. Let’s hope they are positive ones!

Salon 58 makes magic

We can’t always attend Jackie Burger’s Salon 58 soirees, but we do always wait in anticipation for the images to come through after the event. They are such a treat. Totally other-worldly beautiful, aspirational but also with plenty to take out and apply to your own daily style matrix.

Jackie, mesmerising as ever, focused on ‘magic’ at Saturday’s event which was held at the most divine Dylan Lewis Sculpture Garden, and it was all about the sneaker (with a few ball gowns thrown in) – a combination that is utterly divine and so relevant. A little bit of this and a little bit of that, why not be both at the same time?

In the Oxford Dictionary, one of the definitions provided for the word “magic” is “a quality of being beautiful and delightful in a way that seems remote from daily life” – and that is precisely what Jackie delivered…

Storytime Club is finally here!

After many years of dreaming and collating and pulling things together, Liza and I are finally proud to be introducing Storytime Club. We are so excited about this new business and we do hope that you will all love it as much as we do.

I had a couple of friends recently ask me to explain it to them – when you are intimately involved in a business, you know it so well and it’s easy to forget that it isn’t always as obvious to everyone else.

Storytime Club is a subscription-based bookclub for your children. Liza’s entrepreneurial minded husband came up with the idea many years ago, and he thankfully helped us with the design of the website, other elements as well as a bit of savvy business advice too. So, to sign your little ones up, you simply visit our website, fill out the necessary forms and then you sit back and relax, and each month three hand-selected, age-appropriate books will be delivered to your door via courier.

The books are selected by us, both mothers and trained journalists, and we beautifully wrap each parcel, so your child will have something to really look forward to each month. Then all you have to do is grab a blankie, curl up on the couch and read together.

We are so excited to watch this business of ours grow into something really special. Creating a library of wonderful books that will grow and develop with your child.

In the wise old words of Dr Seuss: “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go!”

If you have any questions, comments or would like to sign your child or children up, please do let us know. You can mention it here, or click through to the site here.
