Love L’Occitane

On a blustery, wet, windy day last week we went to The Bay Hotel in Camps Bay for the launch of L’Occitane‘s new skincare range Pivoine Sublime. The range uses peony extract that’s historically been used for its therapeutic properties.

To get a little technical for a moment, the experts at L’Occitane’s lab in the Manosque used enzymatic hydrolysis – a process that breaks up the molecules of an extract into micro-fragments that are incredibly active on the skin – all very interesting. After five years of research, they revealed their new peony-infused skincare range as well as fragrance and tinted lip balms (which I am now completely addicted to).

I have really dry skin and in winter it’s worse. I was moaning to Liza the other day about how awful my skin was looking, so dry and drab, so I was excited to start using L’Occitane’s Peony Perfecting Cream. I’ve been putting it under my barrier moisturing cream and in a week my skin is looking visibly improved. It has some of that elasticity back and is looking so much more hydrated. Yay!

We had to snap a few pics of the pink, peony-inspired snacks. They were delicious.

winter skin savers

My skin is so sensitive, and sometimes I feel like I’m still dealing with issues I dealt with 20 years ago, now just including the new issues (fine lines, wrinkles!). Because of this I’m always weary to try new products on my face, but these amazing products I’ve been using recently have been great…

La Prairie Anti-Aging Rapid Response Booster and Foam Cleanser

The Anti-Aging Rapid Response Booster is designed for both women and men. It’s a smooth, lightweight serum that is proven to reduce fine lines by 39% and deeper wrinkles by as much as 42%, within two weeks. The serum contains rare, powerful ingredients that not only plumps the skin, but helps to remove dead skin cells too. I’ve also found that this rich, creamy foam cleanser leaves my skin feeling sparkly clean and soft after use. Ultra luxurious!

Letibalm Nose and Lip Repair Balm

My lips always suffer when the seasons change, and even during winter when it’s really warm one day and cold and rainy the next. They get dry and cracked so quickly! This balm is so super moisturising that it stays on and creates a protective layer to keep my lips soft. The great thing is I can use it on my nose and the sensitive skin between my lips and nose too. I’m also using Letibalm Paediatric on Bailey, especially when she goes to bed at night and her little nose is blocked. It helps to keep her lips from drying out too badly. You can find Letibalm at Dis-Chem, Pick n Pay and leading pharmacies.

Africology Chamomile Body Balm

I love Africology so much, and this Chamomile Body Balm is just amazing. It’s a thick paste, perfect for those extra dry spots like heels and elbows but also beautifully nourishing for the whole body. You could add a bit to your hot bath before bedtime – the chamomile is the perfect calming aid to leave your body and mind feeling relaxed and restored.

Estee Lauder Resilience Lift Firming / Sculpting Eye Creme

I’ll admit, I haven’t been very good with taking care of the delicate skin around my eyes. Earlier this year, it was dry and flaky and the lines around my eyes were even more prominent. I had to do something pronto. I’ve used Estee Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair with brilliant results, so I opted for their eye creme too. The Resilience Lift has dramatically improved the skin around my eyes. Every night before bed, I dot a little under and around my eyes and it’s made a visible difference!

all i want to do is sleep

Sleep. The thing you miss the most once you have had children. That, and perhaps your pre-baby body. And a quiet cup of coffee. That’s not lukewarm. But nothing can really prepare you for the shock of a newborn baby and its constant demands… and thus the lack of sleep. My littles are now 5 and 2, and yet, I still don’t sleep all night. Seriously, since two weeks ago, Robert has always been a restless, whiny, demanding, needy and hungry baby at night. He’s hard work and most mornings we would say to him, ‘You’re lucky you’re so cute!’ But as luck would have it, since Robert has decided to be a good sleeper, I’ve been working on this mammoth job that’s kept me up every night the last three weeks till after 11pm. I finally finished it yesterday and put Taylor Swift on so loud then danced around the lounge with the littles. I also drank three glasses of champagne. But the question remains… how am I going to get more sleep? If it’s not Robert, it’s work. And vice versa.

Like I said a few months ago here, my bedtime ritual is not always one that induces sleep – it’s tempting to eventually collapse into bed and catch up on social media or play Scrabble (addicted), so when Africology sent us their Sleep Easy hamper, I knew it was time to change my ways.

All of the Sleep Easy Africology products are infused with lavender – known for its sleep-inducing properties. First I give our bed a spray with the Pillow and Linen Spray (R180), then I massage my temples with the delicious smelling Sleep Gel (R140) – this helps to ease tension and relax my body and mind. I then place the Eye Pillow (R285) over my eyes to block out all light and to really help me float away.

Now, I’ll be honest. I don’t do this every night but when I do, I really sleep well. And as we all know, a good night’s sleep is so important for your mental and physical wellbeing.

If you’re in need of some extra sleep motivation, get yourself the Africology products today – you can buy them online or head to their stores – and thank me later 🙂

shea whipped from l’occitane

I am more than a little obsessed with L’Occitane en Provence, and their new limited edition Shea Whipped Collection is no exception.

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

In Burkina Faso, during one of the steps in the production of shea butter, the women whip the paste to get a soft, light mousse-like texture. This is the inspiration behind the Whipped Shea Butter products, which have an amazing fluffy, light whipped texture. It’s good enough to eat.

Shea butter is known as the Gold of Burkina Faso’s women. This video shows something of the amazing relationship between L’Occitane and the women of Burkina Faso and their shea butter.

Shea Whipped Collection is retailing at R340 for the body cream, R250 for the shower foam and R120 for the hand cream.

short hair inspiration

It’s been almost a year since I cut all my hair off and Bailey told me I look like a boy in a dress, but you know what? I’m so happy with short hair. There hasn’t been one day when I’ve hated it. And there are literally a million short styles to try, so this hair ain’t growing for a while!

I Heart Your Outfit

I especially like the back of this hair… think it may be my next step in evolving the short style.

lipidol

A new range of skincare oils called Lipidol was launched last week. It’s from the guys who brought us Bio Oil and I can say from experience that it is amazing.

We think a lot about what we put on our skin, I know that I do. More and more I’ve been turning towards natural alternatives and what we learnt at the Lipidol launch has just enforced this even further. One of the scientists involved in the creation of Lipidol talked us through the whole process, from conception to delivery.

One thing that really stuck with me was when he explained why we should use oil on our skin. Our skin produces an oily, waxy substance to keep it moisturised and to protect it, this gets removed when we wash so it makes sense to replaced it with oils… skin doesn’t release cream.

Lipidol_bottle_line-up

There are 6 products in the range: Cleansing Face Oil, Cleansing Body Oil, After Shower Oil, Sunscreen Oil, Aftershave Oil and Overnight Face Oil. Liza and I have been using the Cleansing Body Oil and the After Shower Oil and I can see a big difference already. I have dry skin and I’ve noticed that it’s now way more supple and dewy all day.

The entire range is available exclusively at Clicks at the same price point – R79.95 for each product.
