style crush: charlie may

I stumbled upon British designer Charlie May on Instagram. What first caught my eye was her great hair. But basically every single photo she posts is beautiful. I like discovering designers that I’ve never heard of, especially when their aesthetic speaks to me – simplicity, clean lines, no fuss.

Charlie May also has a great blog, Girl a la Mode, where she posts about all her trips, projects, outfits etc. I love this look with the high-waisted pants and Adidas slides!

hello forever 21

I remember my first visit to a Forever 21 store was back in 2011 when we were on holiday in New York. I stepped inside the Times Square store and literally did not want to leave. It was huge, overwhelming… and I left with nothing. Too many choices! So how exciting, just a few years later, to have a Forever 21 store right in my home town. Now I can go as often as I want, plus they have new stuff in store every week. I will admit that I’m not a big fan of ‘fast’ fashion, but sometimes a girl just needs a good, old-fashioned retail fix that won’t break the bank.

A few weeks ago Emily and I went to the exclusive opening of the store at Canal Walk. We were feeling tired, stressed, overworked, premenstrual (seriously!) and just not really in the mood for a shopping evening. But as soon as we walked through the doors we somehow forgot about all the stress and exhaustion and we turned into full on shopping mode. The fact that we each received R1000 to spend also helped. The store is big, with different shopping areas each tailored to a specific look plus a huge accessories area as well as shoes, underwear, active wear and everyday basics. At one stage I misplaced my voucher (remember I said we were tired?) and I retraced my steps but just couldn’t find it. Thankfully Emily had a clearer head on her and she marched straight over to where we had been trying on the hats and picked it up for me. Thank you friend!

summer 2014 at old khaki and poetry

Old Khaki and Poetry revealed their s/s 2014 collection last week.

There are some really gorgeous pieces to add to your summer wardrobe. Old Khaki stuck to their easy-to-wear, boho stalwarts with a strong sports-inspired theme coming through, divine! Like the below silk, floral bomber that we just love.

Poetry’s summer is made up of graphic prints, stripes and feminine florals all in their trademark flowing lines and wearable separates. Happy browsing!

Afterwards we went to the Woodstock Exchange to catch up on some work. This was our office for a few hours.

trousers … going wide

Back when skinnies were about to be a thing I swore I couldn’t, I wouldn’t. But of course I did. And now… now I cannot imagine life without a skinny. The tighter it is around my ankle, the better. The more stretch in the fabric, the better. So what will I do come summer when the wide leg trouser trend hits our shores and makes its comeback? I think I may still have a few wide leg options in my wardrobe (at the very back). In the name of fashion I’m sure I’ll give it a spin. In the meantime, some inspiration…

what are you wearing this winter?

I’ve always struggled with my winter wardrobe. Working from home it’s so easy to just stay in your dressing gown all morning and then you’re just too cold to bother looking nice, so it’s the same old thing day in day out.

*shudder*

I am dreading it if I’m honest. There is something so desolate about Cape Town in the winter… the houses are not geared up for it and neither are we, but this year I’m going to prepare myself with a few key looks that will make me want to get dressed in the morning (as opposed to halfway through the afternoon).

What are your key looks for winter?
