I recently ordered these Jane Sews penny loafers and I cannot wait for them to arrive. In the meantime, I’ve been thinking and dreaming of some outfits that will work with these beautiful shoes…

autumn picks

‘Tis the season for curling up, keeping warm and of course, updating the wardrobe. Here are some of our top picks for autumn.

ihc

1/ Kirsten Goss Ombre Diamond collection – for the April children, and the rest of us too, KG’s new collection is quirky and playful with white, cognac and black diamonds.

2/ Billabong’s Midnight Marrakesh collection will be in stores from May, and it features exactly what you’d imagine from its name – long dresses, wide pants, boho layers, chunky knits and a touch of military. Also check out Swindle to purchase Billabong and other labels such as Element and Kustom, along with surf, skate and mountain biking accessories.

3 & 4/ Forever New – currently in all stores (and select Edgars stores) is the Dream Catcher collection. Think floral maxi dresses, suede mini skirts, camel coats, 70s-inspired jewellery and ankle boots.

5/ Revlon – we are enjoying trying out the five new mascara and brush combinations that Revlon released earlier this year. The Dramatic Definition mascara is a goodie, and this Photoready Foundation Powder works like a charm too! Buy online at Red Square.

6/ Simply Aloe – the Aloe & Honey face mask is perfect for this time of year as the cooler weather can cause dryness. Proudly South African, we love the fact that this all-natural mask soothes, repairs and gives skin a good detox. You’ll find it at leading pharmacies and health shops.

7/ Converse – three cheers for the new All Star II Neon range available in teal, green gecko, volt green and red. In stores now!

8/ Jane Sews – locally made, beautifully designed, simply perfect… we love everything Jane Sews. These boots are high up on the autumn wish list.

9/ Hertex – their luxe home collection features the softest, most beautiful throws and blankets.

jane sews new girls collection

We are doing a lot of brand promo posts at the moment, but that is because there are so many exciting things happening right now – we are heading into the festive season after all.

A collection that has got us excited is this Jane Sews Girls range. Love what they’ve got here.

Simple, beautiful clothing that lets little girls be little girls, totally unpretentious and free.

We are overexcited, today we got word that H&M’s first South African flagship store, which is going to be two floors of heaven at the V&A Waterfront, is officially opening on 17 October from 10am-12pm, with exclusive shopping offers. And on 18 October its doors will be open till 11pm and then every day thereafter from 9am-9pm. We can’t hardly wait!

Another lovely thing happened today… we saw the announcement from Jane Sews, one of our favourite local designers, that they’ll be releasing a range of shoes for little girls. Eeep!

it’s pants season

For some reason, I really struggle to wear dresses in winter. I feel too restricted by the layering of tights, dress, jersey, coat etc. So as soon as the weather turns cold and rainy, and I absolutely cannot leave the house baring skin, I turn to pants. All kinds of pants: high-waisted wide leg pants, tapered and cropped pants, skinny denims, boyfriend denims… Here’s some inspiration below.

We also have a whole bunch of gorgeous pants for sale in the I Heart Vintage store, too. Click here to take a look!

And almost always, my pants are paired with flats. Here are a few I have my eye on…

where do you shop?

The other night we were at a launch chatting with one of our ‘industry’ friends. We admired her skirt, she said it was by a local designer and then we moved onto the subject of how many amazing, local designers we have in this country and why, why, why?! are we not all shopping and buying these brands. It make sense to support them, don’t you agree?

If you’re wondering where and how you can shop local… here are some tips:

Shop Online

  • Spree is one of SA’s largest online shops featuring a whole bunch of local (and some international) designers.
  • Mungo & Jemima offer a curated range of beautiful local designs.
  • Zando have a special Made in SA section.
  • We just love Jane Sews for its simplicity.
  • Akedo stocks some of our best!

Shop Stores

Mungo & Jemima have two stores – one in Long Street and the other at the Watershed at V&A Waterfront. In Jozi, Maboneng Precinct is a great one-stop-shopping destination. For those with a taste for the finer threads in life, visit Klûk CGDT in Joburg and Cape Town. For those on a budget, Mr Price support local designers with regular capsule collections and the Edgars x SAFW capsule collections at the Sandton City store are just amazing. We cannot tell you where all the local designers are stocked and who has stores and who doesn’t, but see our list below of some of our favourite designers.

Also, visit the weekend markets like Neighbourgoods in Cape Town and Joburg, and Durban’s I Heart Market.

Shop Direct

Sometimes the best thing to do is contact them directly!

For more information on shopping and supporting local, visit WearSA

Now go forth and be proudly South African!
