oh so pretty

Sometimes we receive an email that makes us sit up and take a bit more notice than usual. Like when the Winter 2015 Lookbook from Sitting Pretty arrived in our inbox. Every single piece is just perfection. That cape! Designer Emma Londgen says ‘the collection was inspired by the alternatingly soft and striking winter lights and a strong desire for softness and cocooning’. We like that. We also like that Sitting Pretty are passionate about ethical trading and integrity and each piece is designed and manufactured in Cape Town using natural fibres such as organic hemp and organic cotton.

where do you shop?

The other night we were at a launch chatting with one of our ‘industry’ friends. We admired her skirt, she said it was by a local designer and then we moved onto the subject of how many amazing, local designers we have in this country and why, why, why?! are we not all shopping and buying these brands. It make sense to support them, don’t you agree?

If you’re wondering where and how you can shop local… here are some tips:

Shop Online

  • Spree is one of SA’s largest online shops featuring a whole bunch of local (and some international) designers.
  • Mungo & Jemima offer a curated range of beautiful local designs.
  • Zando have a special Made in SA section.
  • We just love Jane Sews for its simplicity.
  • Akedo stocks some of our best!

Shop Stores

Mungo & Jemima have two stores – one in Long Street and the other at the Watershed at V&A Waterfront. In Jozi, Maboneng Precinct is a great one-stop-shopping destination. For those with a taste for the finer threads in life, visit Klûk CGDT in Joburg and Cape Town. For those on a budget, Mr Price support local designers with regular capsule collections and the Edgars x SAFW capsule collections at the Sandton City store are just amazing. We cannot tell you where all the local designers are stocked and who has stores and who doesn’t, but see our list below of some of our favourite designers.

Also, visit the weekend markets like Neighbourgoods in Cape Town and Joburg, and Durban’s I Heart Market.

Shop Direct

Sometimes the best thing to do is contact them directly!

Now go forth and be proudly South African!

a new discovery

There is a gorgeous new cafe just up the road from where we live. We like to go there and drink good coffee (Bean There), eat breakfast and do some work (free WiFi). Four & Twenty is run by two young chefs, and friends, who while on a gastronomic tour through France, had a dream of running their own place. Which they now do really well. Besides the awesome breakfasts, there’s an ever-changing lunch menu too and a fresh produce deli section. We recommend you pay Four & Twenty a visit soon. It’s worth it.

We also got quite a few compliments on our new Cinnamon shoes. Beautiful, genuine leather and locally handmade. They’re divine!
