valentine’s ideas for her

Girls are easy to buy for, but sometimes your man needs a bit of encouragement or some not-so-subtle hints. Here are a few ideas… maybe send him the link or leave your laptop open on this page when he’s nearby 🙂

1/ Opus hanging plant – a bunch of flowers is lovely but we prefer the idea of something that lasts longer

2/ Dear Rae silver knot ring and 3/ Country Road circle necklace – you can’t go wrong with jewellery

4/ Zana soft pot – it can be used to store toiletries, make-up, hairbrushes or as a plant holder

5/ L’Occitane Citrus Verbena fresh shower gel and hand cream gel – full of minty freshness and goodness for your hands and body

6/ Yankee Candle in clean cotton – the best smelling candle you’ll ever own, plus they have a ton of delicious scents to choose from, like Fluffy Towels, Cinnamon Stick, Egyptian Musk, Baby Powder, Black Plum Blossom, Vanilla Lime, White Gardenia and many more

7/ The Girl on The Train – we have still not read this New York Times bestseller but we’ve heard it’s brilliant

8/ Beau Constantia Pas de Nom red wine blend – this smooth-textured red has a ripe, dark fruit flavour with a beautifully rich and structured palate

Look out for our Valentine’s Ideas for Him coming soon!

right now we’re loving…

Bright and early mornings, balmy days and warm evenings… we love summertime. Here are a few things making these delicious days even better for us right now.

L’Occitane‘s new fragrance collection is sublime. Created by Olivier Baussan (L’Occitane founder) and Pierre HermĂ© (an extraordinary pastry chef with a memory for flavours and scents) it has two offerings – Jasmin Immortelle Neroli and Pamplemousse Rhubarbe – each as fresh as the first light of day. Our favourite has to be Jasmin with its Immortelle essential oil from Corsica, head notes of pink pepper and lemon, heart notes of jasmine, immortelle, neroli and orange blossom and base notes of amber, white wood and musk. So fresh!

Pichulik’s S/S 16 Lena collection is perfectly described by the designer Katherine-Mary Pichulik herself. She states: “This collection is for the woman who has a sense of humour and a lust for travel. She collects a trousseau of objects to mark her travels and memories, and prizes experiences over appearances. The pieces are therefore effortless, unapologetic and designed to follow the wearer’s movements. They balance bold and soft to make a statement without being loud.”

You can see the rest of the collection here. It’s amazing.

A bright, bold lip makes everything better. The Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm in Striking Spectaculaire is our current fave. It glides on smoothly, has a subtle mint flavour and stays on for ages.

And how sweet is this video that Revlon just launched with their Love Study campaign, proving that a beauty ritual can improve a women’s love life?

Lastly, who is heading to Kamers at Webersburg this weekend? We’re hoping to get there and can’t wait to see all the exciting stalls. One we’re definitely making a stop at is Handmade by Me. Designer, Sera Holland, has a range of new printed fabrics (see here for a sneak peek, we love the prickly pears!) that she will be unveiling with a host of products like tea towels and cushions. One of the products we can’t wait to see are the ‘Big 5’ reusable placemats for kids that can be turned into face masks when you’re done with them. So cool!

Love L’Occitane

On a blustery, wet, windy day last week we went to The Bay Hotel in Camps Bay for the launch of L’Occitane‘s new skincare range Pivoine Sublime. The range uses peony extract that’s historically been used for its therapeutic properties.

To get a little technical for a moment, the experts at L’Occitane’s lab in the Manosque used enzymatic hydrolysis – a process that breaks up the molecules of an extract into micro-fragments that are incredibly active on the skin – all very interesting. After five years of research, they revealed their new peony-infused skincare range as well as fragrance and tinted lip balms (which I am now completely addicted to).

I have really dry skin and in winter it’s worse. I was moaning to Liza the other day about how awful my skin was looking, so dry and drab, so I was excited to start using L’Occitane’s Peony Perfecting Cream. I’ve been putting it under my barrier moisturing cream and in a week my skin is looking visibly improved. It has some of that elasticity back and is looking so much more hydrated. Yay!

We had to snap a few pics of the pink, peony-inspired snacks. They were delicious.

beauty secrets we learnt from our moms

Yay, yay it’s Mother’s Day on Sunday. Double the fun to be able to celebrate our precious mothers and get spoilt by our own families too. Being a mom is no mean feat, but it’s also the most rewarding job on the planet.

mothers day

This year, we’re going to share some of the beauty secrets our moms have passed down to us in their daily beauty regimes.

“As a little girl, I always remember my mum slathering on the body cream every night after her bath. Today, she still religiously moisturises from top to toe before she goes to bed, and her skin is gorgeous. I will admit that I am not as dedicated to the task as my mom, but I do make the effort to keep my skin as soft and silky as possible. With two kids, life is usually a bit of a mad rush so I’ve bought myself some Nivea In-Shower Moisturiser which works like a charm. Another secret from my mum is to always have a tube of hand cream in your handbag and on your bedside table. So I’m never without my Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream. I also remember my mum always smelling great, but never overpowering a room. Her secret? A few subtle spritzes of her favourite scent on her pulse points, as well a little in her hair (which by the way is always impeccable). Try L’Occitane’s Jasmin & Bergamote EDT for a burst of floral freshness.” – Liza

“My mum has never been a big make-up wearer, but she’s always taken her skin very seriously. Her mum, my grandmother, is in her eighties and still has the most perfect alabaster skin imaginable and has passed that very English complexion down the line. One disadvantage is that this skin doesn’t fare well in the African sunshine and I brought my mother to actual tears burning in the sun when I was younger. She had to teach me that beauty doesn’t lie in peeling and blisters, but in celebrating the skin you have. I take sun protection very seriously now and have learnt from my mum that no make-up can beat a beautiful dewy, well-moisturised skin. We are utterly unfaithful to brands, willing to try anything that promises us beauty and eternal youth, but our strong line of French blood makes L’Occitane a firm family favourite. L’Occitane’s Divine Cream is the ideal anti-ageing cream for both of us. Natural and full of essential oils, it moisturises, lifts and defines. Yes please!” – Emily

If you still haven’t got your mom a gift, let L’Occitane help with their fun Mother’s Day Gift Finder.

We hope all of you amazing moms have a super day on Sunday!
