dreamy autumn shoes

I’ve come across some pretty amazing shoes on Pinterest lately. Ankle boots are high up on my must-have list for winter, but so are loafers and trainers and beautiful leather flats…

There’s nothing more exciting when you come across a designer that makes every piece like it was meant for you. This is how I feel about Jane Sews. Locally designed and crafted, all her dresses, tops, shoes and bags are timeless, simple and sophisticated. Perfect, really. Amy Venter, the designer behind Jane Sews, has this to say about her brand…

“I have always been inspired by nature’s authenticity. My design and making hope to reflect this same spirit; every design element is carefully considered and close attention is paid to fine construction and finish. With Jane Sews I sought out to create uplifted staples and timeless pieces that are suitable for all seasons. The small run collections are crafted from high quality natural fabrics and are both functional and easy to wear. Linking arms with other local makers has enabled Jane Sews to be part of building into community. It has also allowed me the privilege of sharing this creative journey with other tradesmen while ensuring the integrity of the finished product. This is a story sewn by honest hands speaking to a simpler way of living. My greatest wish would be that your Jane Sews piece finds a treasured place in your wardrobe.”

My greatest wish is that I could have every single piece 🙂

a new discovery

There is a gorgeous new cafe just up the road from where we live. We like to go there and drink good coffee (Bean There), eat breakfast and do some work (free WiFi). Four & Twenty is run by two young chefs, and friends, who while on a gastronomic tour through France, had a dream of running their own place. Which they now do really well. Besides the awesome breakfasts, there’s an ever-changing lunch menu too and a fresh produce deli section. We recommend you pay Four & Twenty a visit soon. It’s worth it.

We also got quite a few compliments on our new Cinnamon shoes. Beautiful, genuine leather and locally handmade. They’re divine!

shoes, glorious shoes…

One of the (many) things we love about summer is shoe shopping! Here are some of our top picks…

We’re loving the full bloom floral campaign at the Edgars Shoe Gallery stores (Bloem, Benoni, Jozi, Chatsworth, Phalaborwa and Umtata). These stores, with more to come around SA, offer a ton of awesome shoe brands including Steve Madden, Aldo, Polo and Sissy Boy. So get to your nearest and invest in some beautiful, bright shoes! Also, can I just mention that this awesome campaign was executed by John Brown Media SA – a very cool company, and where I work on Edgars Man, lucky me!

If you’re a little wary of too much colour, perhaps a walk on the wild side is in order? Locally made Cinnamon shoes are way up there on our list of ‘must-haves’, especially these animal print ones. View more of the spring/summer ’13 collection here (plus, if you pop a pair of used children’s shoes in your courier bag when your new Cinnamons are delivered, you’ll get 15% off your purchase and the kiddie shoes will be donated to Nkhensani Orphanage). Nice!

Metallics are big on our radar for those days when we’re running around in jeans and T-shirts with our mama hats on. These Nine West flats in the season’s favourite metallic, rose gold, will do just fine 🙂 (they’re also available in silver).

Happy shopping!

vintage find of the week

There is this new vintage store on Wynberg Main Road. I foolishly forgot to ask for the name, but there is a large banner outside that says VINTAGE – which was like a proverbial flame to my moth. It’s owned by a lovely lady who used to work at Second Time Around, which is a stalwart on the Cape Town vintage scene, so she really knows her stuff. It’s a treasure trove and everything is 50% off until the weekend.

I bought Ryan two beautiful designer shirts for work and thanks to the sale they were R75 each. But these were my favourite purchase, handmade Brazilian leather sandals with the perfect little heel. They are my dream shoe… if you are a vintage hunter this store is well worth a visit. She’s situated roughly in the middle of Wynberg main road but there is a large banner outside strung between the pillars that makes her easy to spot. I’ll try to find out her address for anyone interested.
