it’s pants season

For some reason, I really struggle to wear dresses in winter. I feel too restricted by the layering of tights, dress, jersey, coat etc. So as soon as the weather turns cold and rainy, and I absolutely cannot leave the house baring skin, I turn to pants. All kinds of pants: high-waisted wide leg pants, tapered and cropped pants, skinny denims, boyfriend denims… Here’s some inspiration below.

We also have a whole bunch of gorgeous pants for sale in the I Heart Vintage store, too. Click here to take a look!

And almost always, my pants are paired with flats. Here are a few I have my eye on…

spree aw 2015

Spree‘s AW 2015 collections are a love affair with outerwear paired with classics (with a modern twist), and an opulent new take on knitwear…

I just love winter trends and can’t wait to make a few key purchases to get me through the chilly months.

‘It is set to be a winter filled with elegant ease and plenty of style,’ says Spree Fashion Director, Chris Viljoen.

We attended the launch a week or so ago and were so impressed by what they have on offer. Hit play and see for yourselves.

where do you shop?

The other night we were at a launch chatting with one of our ‘industry’ friends. We admired her skirt, she said it was by a local designer and then we moved onto the subject of how many amazing, local designers we have in this country and why, why, why?! are we not all shopping and buying these brands. It make sense to support them, don’t you agree?

If you’re wondering where and how you can shop local… here are some tips:

Shop Online

  • Spree is one of SA’s largest online shops featuring a whole bunch of local (and some international) designers.
  • Mungo & Jemima offer a curated range of beautiful local designs.
  • Zando have a special Made in SA section.
  • We just love Jane Sews for its simplicity.
  • Akedo stocks some of our best!

Shop Stores

Mungo & Jemima have two stores – one in Long Street and the other at the Watershed at V&A Waterfront. In Jozi, Maboneng Precinct is a great one-stop-shopping destination. For those with a taste for the finer threads in life, visit Klûk CGDT in Joburg and Cape Town. For those on a budget, Mr Price support local designers with regular capsule collections and the Edgars x SAFW capsule collections at the Sandton City store are just amazing. We cannot tell you where all the local designers are stocked and who has stores and who doesn’t, but see our list below of some of our favourite designers.

Also, visit the weekend markets like Neighbourgoods in Cape Town and Joburg, and Durban’s I Heart Market.

Shop Direct

Sometimes the best thing to do is contact them directly!

For more information on shopping and supporting local, visit WearSA

Now go forth and be proudly South African!

spree s/s 2014

We had a great time at the Spree spring summer look board on Thursday night. Spree.co.za is Naspers’ online shop, which offers ladies and men’s clothing, decor, gifts, kids clothes and beauty products.

Their look board event was attended by all the designers, Marianne Fassler, Malcolm KLûK, Christiaan Gabriël du Toit, Gert-Johan Coetzee and Thula Sindi. We mingled and sipped Tanqueray cocktails, checking out the models posed in Spree’s trend selections for spring summer 2014. All in all a great night out, with some gorgeous fashion to feast our eyes on.

yay for sales

Is January the longest month ever or what? Jeepers! Thankfully there are sales, sales everywhere 🙂

shopping

Hit Spree for their huge 75% sale, I’ve got my eye on the multi-coloured rope necklace from Pichulik.

If you’re looking for stuff for the littles, go to Kinderelo for their 60% sale. These Sticky Fudge pyjamas would be so cute on Bailey!

For all things organic, Faithful to Nature is your one stop shop. We just bought this Morphy Richards Eco vacuum cleaner. I never thought I’d be excited about a vacuum cleaner?!

At Estee Lauder, if you buy any product online before 31 January, you’ll receive a complimentary 30ml bottle of Advanced Night Repair. Bonus!

Happy shopping everyone 🙂

spree launches virtual pop-up

Online retailer spree is showcasing some of South Africa’s favourite designers, with the launch of their virtual pop-up shop, Designer Spotlight.

Now, sought-after local fashion is accessible to anyone in South Africa. Yay! Not only can shoppers find unique, locally designed pieces to buy, but they will also be able to really get to know the designers featured in the store through an inspiring shopping experience.

The lovely Chris Viljoen, fashion director of spree says, ‘We believe that it is important to try and make South African fashion available to everyone in the country. By carefully selecting the best on offer, and putting it online, available to shop, we believe that we will see growth in the number of people buying local and supporting the fashion industry.’ We agree Chris, local is so very lekker.
